ART IS SUPPOSED TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE
“The arts and humanities define who we are as a people. That is their power - to remind us of what we each have to offer, and what we all have in common. To help us understand our history and imagine our future. To give us hope in the moments of struggle and to bring us together when nothing else will.”
Michelle Obama
Art Is Supposed To Change Your Life
That’s a pretty big statement to make. But, it’s true.
It doesn’t matter whether you are making art, viewing it or living with it.
And it’s especially true if you are an artist actively creating. Regardless of what it is that you create.
Creating art is a profound act of courage. It is an experience like no other. It has changed my life for good. And for the better.
Creating art can make you see and think more intently and deeply. This can change the way you view the world. Which, in itself, can be a life altering experience.
Creating art can cause you to feel more intensely. It could be loving more intensely or hating more intensely. It could be more intense fear, joy, pain, wonder, curiosity or courage. This could manifest itself in the way you depict your subject matter, the colors you choose, what inspires you, or what kind of brush strokes you make.
Creating art gives you the opportunity to experience what momentum feels like. Creating art can provide the artist with opportunities to build confidence, feel empowered, and create with more courage.
Creating art allows you to commit yourself to making something that did not exist until you made it.
Creating art allows you to ride the waves of emotion that naturally happen during the process of creating.
Creating art gives you the opportunity to feel the power of motivation.
Make your art.
Work hard.
Get involved in the process.
And, if you do, art can change your life.
Best,
David

1. This Thursday, Jordan Blaquera and I will be teaching how to Overcome Your Creativity Obstacles where we'll reveal 3 Secrets Every Artist Needs To Know in an online event hosted by the Artists Council of the Coachella Valley (Thursday, January 7, 11 am PST).
2. Being willing to write a book required a profound act of courage on my part. I'll tell you all about it in the Create Anyway Book Backstage Pass starting January 11. What you learn will help you apply the concepts from the book so you can create more often and more confidently and in a way that changes your life.
