MY ONE WISH FOR YOU
I love the simplicity, graceful pose and elegant line quality of this one. Sometimes things just work out. And when they do, I am thankful. And grateful. “Untitled”, 16”x 12”, graphite, charcoal, acrylic and collage on paper. © 2020 David Limrite

My One Wish for You
If I had one wish for all of my artist friends out there, it would be this:
To start off the new year by dedicating yourself to one thing. One painting, project, series or idea. Then show up, begin and stay with it. And don’t look back.
My guess is that you have a lot of ideas for projects or paintings that you would love to get to some day. You may even have several unfinished paintings in various stages of completion scattered around your studio.
So… my wish is for you to be able to block out all the noise and commit to one thing. Even if it is to just finish one incomplete painting.
And then...
Give yourself the gift of having the discipline to focus on that one thing and create regularly. (I think I just snuck a second wish in there, didn’t I?)
Yes, I did.
And that second wish is for you to set up a regular creativity schedule, at the beginning of the year, and then fight like crazy to maintain that schedule for as long as you can. Heck, why wait until the beginning of the year? Design your weekly creativity schedule right now.
This will help you gain, build and maintain some precious momentum, so that you can be more productive and create with more confidence.
The more art you make, the more creative you will allow yourself to be.
Declare to yourself what one project you are going to focus on to begin the new year.
What do you really want to create?
What one thing do you really want to work on?
Then, decide what a reasonable painting schedule looks like for you.
Then, pay attention to that project. And more importantly, pay attention to YOU.
And then apply yourself. Focus on your one project.
What do you think would happen if you did this?
You have creative work to do.
Best,
David
P.S. Being willing to write a book required me to focus and block out all the noise. I'll tell you all about it in the CREATE ANYWAY Book Backstage Pass. Join me for a deeper dive into the concepts in the book that will help you commit to your one thing.
