ARE YOU BRAVE ENOUGH?

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Doesn’t my just-published book, CREATE ANYWAY, look great under the tree?

“It takes a lot of courage to show your dreams to someone else.”
Erma Bombeck

I. Am. So. Excited.

My book CREATE ANYWAY is now available online from Amazon and Barnes & Noble. So. Damn. Fun!

Get your copy now or order here to get your personally inscribed copy.

Want to send the book as a gift?

We can email you a certificate that you can wrap and put under the tree or that you can send to the recipient as new orders are not likely to arrive by Christmas time. Be sure to include your certificate request in the comment section of your order.

Are You Brave Enough?

Being an artist requires tremendous amounts of bravery. For many, just calling themselves an “Artist” takes a profound act of courage.

Bravery is required to take risks with your work, to try out a new idea, or explore a new media, technique or style.

Some days it takes courage just to walk through the door of your studio. And still more courage to pick up a brush and begin painting.

However, what I want to talk about today is being brave enough to create something bad. Something terrible. Something truly awful.

I don’t mean creating something bad on purpose.

What I mean is, are you brave enough to make your best effort to create something that really works, looks great, is meaningful to you, and that you love? But...

Only to have it not work at all. To have it fail miserably. To have it not look at all like what you thought it was going to look like?

So… Do you have the courage to hate what you just painted and have it be okay?

That’s a big “ask”, I know.

By “having it be okay”, I mean:

  • You know that you did the best you could.

  • You’re okay with having your work become something you didn’t imagine or take you places you did not expect to go.

  • You probably learned a lot, even if it was what doesn’t work.

  • This experience makes you excited to see where you will go next with your work.

An artist has to have this kind of courage. The kind of courage that allows you to play, explore, experiment, take risks and try unproven things by stepping out of your comfort zone. And to carry on when things are not going well.

Having this kind of courage is the only way to invent, re-imagine and innovate.

Now… Do you have the courage to get up tomorrow morning and try it again?

Yes, I think you do.

Best,

David

P.S. Being willing to write a book requires a lot of bravery. I'll tell you all about it in the CREATE ANYWAY Book Backstage Pass. Join me for for a deeper dive into the concepts in the book that will help you to be brave with your own creativity.
