CHAPTER 14: THE CONFIDENCE TO FINISH

I am eager for you to read this book because one of my passions in life is to help artists be better, more productive artists. Which is what this book is all about. Writing this book was a labor of love and I could not be more excited to share it with you.  © 2020 David Limrite

Chapter 14: The Confidence To Finish

All of the chapters in CREATE ANYWAY contain nuggets of useful information for any creator; however, Chapter 14 is probably one of the most important.

Chapter 14 discusses completing your art. Making the ultimate decision to proclaim that your painting is finished. Every time you finish a painting, you build tremendous amounts of self-confidence.

When you complete a painting (and proclaim it so), you demonstrate to yourself, (and others), that you value your accomplishment and your art. Finishing is what confidence looks like.

Chapter 14 also talks about how judgement and criticism come with the territory of completion.

Criticism will come, not only from yourself, but from others. Welcoming and weathering criticism strengthens your convictions about your work, and leads to better, more accomplished paintings.

Expect that judgement will happen and CREATE ANYWAY.

And finish.

And start another painting.

Chapter 14 also talks about how artists may become derailed by the unexpected. Every artist needs to be prepared for the unexpected things that happen to a painting while it’s being worked on. Don’t allow this to frustrate you, or shut you down altogether.

Embrace the unexpected and continue painting. And finish.

The more you create, the clearer you will become about what you want your paintings to look like. And, it will become easier for you to know when your painting is complete. And, you will become more confident in your ability to judge your own work.

Lastly, Chapter 14 offers up suggestions on how to help you determine when a painting is finished.

Like I said, not only is Chapter 14 jam packed with valuable thoughts, ideas and concepts - all of the other chapters are too. It’s also a fun read as well.

You'll also be able to ask your questions during the Q&A Sessions.
