YOUR IMPERFECT CREATIVE JOURNEY

I got more painterly with this one. That is not where it was headed. I had other plans for it, but as you know, our creations have their own plans, which requires us to collaborate with them, if there is to be any hope of success. I listened to this painting and I am glad I did. 11”x 8”, acrylic on wood. © 2019 David Limrite

“I think that when I get blocked, it’s that I have something to say but I don’t want to say it. So my mind says, ‘I have nothing to say.’ Closer to the truth is that I have a thought I really would prefer not to have.”
Paul Simon, Singer/Songwriter

Your Imperfect Creative Journey

Creating is messy. I don’t mean spilled paint and charcoal everywhere. I mean messy as in highs and lows, ups and downs, inspiration and blockage and ah-ha moments and boredom.

It is what it is. This is the life of a creator. These different phases exist and are a reality that we as artists must deal with on a daily basis.

What we have to do is learn how to create in the middle of all these ups and downs. What helps me is to adopt the idea of choice. I choose to not let the lows, the downs, the blockages and the boredom slow me down, or worse yet, shut me down altogether. I choose instead to be inspired even when things are not going well. We all have the power of choice.

This creative journey that we are all on is going to be imperfect. It’s going to be messy. The quality of the work we produce, and our emotions, are going to fluctuate dramatically.

Choose. Ride the waves. Create anyway.

Focus on the opportunities and look for the open doors that each phase presents.

Embrace imperfection.

Best,

David
