IT'S NOT ABOUT FINISHING
One of two pieces in progress for an upcoming group show to benefit local high school arts programs. I am honored to be a part of this. Thanks to The Monday Club of San Luis Obispo for putting on this exhibit and for including me. © 2019 David Limrite

It’s Not About Finishing
The first goal of a creator should not be about finishing. It should be about engaging in the creative process. The making. The doing. The activity. The time spent.
The drawing. The painting. The sculpting.
It should be about building something that did not exist until you built it. With focus being on the building.
It is also not about how much you get done or accomplished. It’s about how often you create.
Sometimes we have to slog our way through the process. Sometimes it’s going to be uncomfortable. Sometimes it’s going to be challenging. Sometimes we are going to get stuck.
But this is all part of the process. And, we must love every minute of it. Especially when it’s not going well.
For me, focusing on the process always leads to better, more satisfying creations.
Of course, we would all love to finish something we love, but, in my experience, finishing should not be the primary goal for any creator. The act of creating should be.
Best,
David
