JUDGMENT

David Limrite-Artist, Coach, Mentor, Teacher

“An artist, in order to function fully, must be both vulnerable and resilient.”

~Julia Cameron, The Artist’s Way

You will be judged.

Your creativity will be judged.

Your art will be judged.

Judgment is part of the big picture just as criticism, doubt, fear and procrastination are. And, like I said last week: “WE CREATE ANYWAY”.

Please do not let fear of judgment prevent you from putting your creations out there. Show your work. Share your gifts.

Judgment by others can’t really hurt us. Judgment is just words or thoughts. What hurts us is what we make those words or thoughts mean about us.

The other way we hurt ourselves is by comparing ourselves with others. No matter how good we are at our craft, somebody is going to be better. So what!? We create because we love it. We are as good as we are right now. And yet, we are going to keep creating, learning and getting better.

Use comparison as inspiration not as punishment. Do not fear being judged. Do not fear being taken seriously as an artist.

Make the art you need to make and put it out there. Even if you are just showing your new painting to a friend.

And be proud of what you have accomplished.

And then get back to work.

Best,

David
