What Your Painting Is And Isn’t
Finding out what your art isn’t, is just as important as finding out what it is.
Are you paintings:
Bold or subtle
Bright or muted
Loose or tight
Realistic, expressionistic or abstract
Large or small
Whimsical or serious
Dark or light
Melancholy or uplifting
Textured or flat
Communicating a message or purely for visual pleasure
Horizontal, vertical, square or round
Depicting a “Thing” or an expression of that “Thing”
Filled with geometric, or organic shapes, or both
…and on and on. I think you get the idea.
The only way to know what your painting is and what it isn’t, is to paint. A lot.
Paint until you find out what your painting is and isn’t.
Or, what it should be.
Or, better yet, what it could be.
Best,
David
