BEING AN ARTIST IS...
This is the third piece in this small series. I am not sure where I am going with these. I had fun with them. They made me stretch and reach. They pushed me out of my comfort zone. So, for all of that, I am thankful for them. I have a hunch some of the things that happened in these pieces will show up in the next images I create. “Untitled For Now, 10”x 8”, acrylic and collage on wood. © 2020 David Limrite
“An artist, in order to function fully, must be both vulnerable and resilient.”
Julia Cameron, The Artists Way
Being An Artist Is…
Being an artist is not just about the things you create. It is about who you are.
Being an artist is in your soul. Not in what you put on canvas.
Being an artist is showing up, beginning and staying with it until something happens.
Being an artist is surrendering to your creative work.
Being an artist is pursuing the creative ideas that matter most to you.
Being an artist is exhausting yourself in the commitment to your work.
Being an artist is embracing imperfection.
Being an artist is giving up control.
Being an artist is allowing yourself to be uncomfortable and going to places that frighten you.
Being an artist is taking incredible risks without considering the consequences.
Being an artist is finding meaning in the process.
Being an artist is committing to the work it requires in order to grow and develop into the creator you want to be.
Being an artist is creating just because it brings you joy.
Best,
David
