CREATE WITH HIGH EXPECTATIONS

IMG_6622.JPG

I am really making an effort right now to further abstract the figure. Shapes, line, brush stroke, drip, drama and energy. I want these things to be just as important as what they add up to. “Untitled”, 20”x 16”, acrylic and charcoal on canvas. © 2020 David Limrite

“The greater danger for most of us lies, not in setting our aim too high and falling short, but setting our aim too low and achieving our mark.”

Michelangelo

Create With High Expectations

Go for it! Make your best effort. Work hard. Create the best thing that you can create. Right now. Today. With your current skills and talents.

Don’t hold back. No fear. No hesitation.

Attack your working surface. Pretend you know exactly what you are doing. (This approach has helped me more times than I can count.)

But…

Be willing to be disappointed.

Be willing to fail.

And…

If you do fail, it doesn’t mean that you are a terrible artist who just created something awful. What it does mean is that you tried. It means that you were brave. It means that you gave it your best shot and fell a little short, (because you went at it with high expectations).

All it means is that you have more (creative) work to do. It means that you get to learn. It means that you now have an opportunity to try again and attempt to make something even better.

You tried! That’s the important thing.

You will get better and better. And create things you love. As long as you keep trying…

…and, keep creating with high expectations.

Best,

David

Quotes from Week 8 of the Create Anyway Collective (12-week program, currently in progress):

Thanks for all you are both putting in to making this CAC so valuable to all of us.
Marilyn D., CAC Artist

"I’ve always been resilient but today’s world is taking its toll. That was such a great session, I doubt there was anyone who did not relate in a deeply personal way. Once again, thanks to both of you for your guidance and insight.
~ CAC Artist, after a weekly Coaching Session

Jordan, I thought that the coaching session this last Monday was beyond great!!!!!! I thought that you did an outstanding job of interacting with the artists, and I was so sorry to have missed experiencing that session in real time.
