YOUR PLAYGROUND
Lots of experimenting going on around here. Always searching for that next thing, technique or idea that will ignite a spark within me. 10”x 8”, acrylic, collage and pencil on wood. © 2019 David Limrite
“What is interesting is the artist, and what is interesting about the artist are his own convictions.”
David Smith, Artist
Your Playground
One of the things that helps me approach my work is to consider that each one of my paintings is a playground for process and curiosity. This approach also keeps me from taking my work and myself so seriously. And, it keeps the work fresh.
I mean, one of the biggest goals for an artist should be to have fun! Right?
I have talked a lot about focusing on process in this blog. But, I tell you what, keeping my focus on the creating, the making, the attempt, the time spent and the doing, always allows me to create better stuff. Rather than focusing on perfection, completion and end product.
Curiosity? Well… that keeps things interesting and playful. And, helps me focus on learning.
Each piece I create is a gateway to the next piece. So, I try to learn as much as I can while I am making a painting so that I can take that knowledge with me to the next painting.
The key for me is to be curious. I do this by always asking myself, “What if?” Or, “What will happen if I try this?”
Have fun. Play. Be curious. And, learn.
Best,
David

ARTIST COACHING & MENTORING
In my one-on-one, 3-month program, I can help artists:
Successfully employ strategies that will allow you to work more consistently and productively
Outsmart your fear, anxiety, reluctance, refusal, indecision, doubt and distractions
Increase the time you spend creating
Manifest the courage and will to show up more often and do your creative work
Confront the challenges of creating and learn to overcome and push past them and meaningfully create anyway
