“Art work is ordinary work, but it takes courage to embrace that work, and wisdom to mediate the interplay of art and fear.”
David Bayles and Ted Orland, Authors of “Art And Fear”

Going For It

Making art is hard work. At times it can be downright difficult, frustrating and soul crushing. And, yet, at the same time, creating can be so rewarding and fulfilling.

Being an artist requires, among many other things, bravery and courage. Lots of it! There is no room for fear when it comes to creativity.

Creating is NOT about “HOPING” that you can create what you want to create. It is about proving to yourself that you can create what you want to create.

Don’t waste your time thinking about what is possible. Forget about dreaming big. Don’t subscribe to the notion that, “If you can dream it, you can do it”.

Not helpful.

A better approach is to think about what, ideally, you want to create. Where do want to go with your art? What do you want your art to look like? And, what would you like to communicate.

It’s about having a vision and GOING FOR IT!

It’s about conviction, purpose and intention. It’s about showing up and working hard.

It’s about beginning, doing and trying.

It’s about making things. Lots and lots of things.

If you are dreaming about being an artist, and making art, then you are not an artist. If you are actively making art, then you’re an artist.

You owe it to yourself and your art to attempt to make your visions a reality by being an artist and making your art.

Best,

David
