THE RIGHT EMPHASIS
Three pieces in progress. I love the energy and the mark making in these so far. And I am feeling good about the relationship between the paint, brush stroke, charcoal and line. Each 12”x 9”, acrylic and charcoal on wood. © 2018 David Limrite

The Right Emphasis
What is your main emphasis with regard to creating?
My main emphasis is on “the process”. The activity. The doing. The making. The act of creating.
I love it all.
The time spent creating. The ideas. The choosing. The showing up. The beginning. The staying put until something happens.
Heading in the direction I think I want to go. The adjustments. The correcting. The risk taking. The mark making.
The search. The journey. Watching what happens on the surface of my canvas. The brushstroke. The line. The shape. The erasing. The painting out. The layering.
The contemplation time. The change in motivation. Listening to the painting. Reacting. Watching it develop. The unexpected. The happy accident. The frustration. The exhilaration. Making something out of nothing. Building momentum. Generating energy. The hard work. The exhaustion.
The failing. The learning. The wanting to do it better the next time. The focus. The involvement. The passion.
I try as best as I can, and as often as I can, to emphasize the joy of creating. Rather than on achieving results. Not always easy. All I know is that when I put the emphasis on the process, rather than the product, my end results are always so much better.
“Process” is the right emphasis for me.
What’s yours?
Best,
David
