ENCOURAGING COURAGE

Currently on my easel in the studio. It is just an underpainting with a rendered piece of barbed wire. Trying something new. I have no idea where this is going yet. I have ideas, just not sure which road I will take. Trying to create with courage. © 2018 David Limrite

Rollo May, Psychologist

Encouraging Courage

2019 is right around the corner.

Hopefully, for you, it will be a year full of new ideas, creativity, skill building, hard work, experimentation, risk taking, exploration, curiosity, learning, focusing on process, trusting your skill and intuition, and having fun at your easel.

I hope that you are excited to further explore your creativity, try out new ideas, and take your art to the next level (whatever that is for you).

Wherever your creativity takes you next year, I have one message for you:

HAVE COURAGE!

Be brave, be bold, and act like you know what you are doing. (Even if you don’t).

Mustering up the courage to try something new has always paid off for me in some form or another. Even if the resulting image was not successful, I always learn something that I can carry with me to the next painting.

However, I will say, that the quality of my paintings that were created with courage, almost always turn out better and more interesting, than paintings that were created under the influence of timidity and preciousness.

So, in 2019, go forth, have courage, and allow creativity to spring forth from your brush.

Happy New Year!

Best,

David
