CREATE. ANYWAY.
“Untitled”, acrylic on wood, 16”x 12”. I tried to follow my own advice on this one and just CREATE. ANYTHING. In this case, it was a portrait. I have been wanting to try some portraits for sometime now, with my new abstract mindset. I finally allowed myself to try. Here is my first attempt. I am working on a second one as we speak. © 2018 David Limrite
“I think people who are not artists often feel that artists are inspired, but if you work at your art, you don’t have time to be inspired. Out of the work comes the work.”
John Cage, Artist/Musician
Create. Anything.
It is a new year and it is time to clear out all of the obstacles that are preventing you from spending time creating. Whatever is getting in the way of your creativity is not good for you as a creative person. And they are not good for the things that you create either.
The time is now.
You do not need permission from anyone, other than yourself. So… go make something. Anything. Give yourself permission to do so.
Did you give yourself a gift this holiday?
Whether you did or did not, do it now. Give yourself the gift of spending some quality time in the studio. Creativity is a gift to the creator, as well as, to the people who view, buy, and collect art.
Go on! Create something. Anything. Create with reckless abandon and ignore the results. Enjoy every minute of it.
I dare you to enjoy creating something.
Don’t worry about perfection and correctness. In fact, don’t even worry about liking what you create. Just create, enjoy the process and do not worry about the end product.
Focus on the process, summon the courage to try, and be persistent.
It does not matter what your reasons for creating are. In fact, it is no ones business at all. Whatever your reasons are, they are good enough.
Be kind to yourself.
Just do it.
Create something.
Anything.
Best,
David
