CHALLENGE YOURSELF

Challenge Yourself
I just completed a three day workshop with nine very talented artists. The work that came out of this workshop was some of the best yet. Even though I have been teaching for over 30 years, I am still learning, and as a result, I am becoming a better teacher. And my students are getting better as well. I am the designated teacher in the classroom, however, I am also a student. I learn just as much, if not more, from my students as they do from me. Don’t tell them that. {Smile}
One of the things that I was reminded of during this workshop is that wherever your brush or pencil goes today, is where you are. You work with what you have at the moment. You begin. You start the process. You mix one color at a time. You make one mark at a time. And then you mix the next color and make the next mark. And the next one. And so on.
You use the strengths and talents that you currently have, and, at the same time, you challenge yourself. Or allow yourself to be challenged. We love to be challenged. We love to be in situations that challenge our current talents. This is how we learn. And we love to learn.
Give yourself the opportunity to be challenged as often as you can. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
Best,
David
