LIGHTNING & IN-DEPTH CRITIQUE SESSIONS
The A & B groupings relate to the scheduling of each round of Lighting Critiques, but they do not relate to In-Depth Critiques or Bonus Critiques.
The artists scheduled for a specific day will be critiqued; however, the order of the critiques may not be the order listed on the Critique Schedule.
For each of your three original deadlines (two Lightning Critiques and one In-Depth Critique), submit two new & separate pieces such as drawings, paintings, sculpture, or mixed media works including textile arts (however, no works that are solely photography).
This will result in a total of 6 new & separate pieces being submitted by your 3rd CAC deadline.
In order to remain in contention for the Group Online Exhibit, submit two new and separate works for each of these three deadlines: Lightning Critiques (2) and In-Depth Critique (1).
This keeps you eligible to submit your 6 works (whether you re-worked them or not and whether they were critiqued or not) for the Group Online Exhibit during the Artwork Submission Period (Nov. 3-8). From those six works, two will be chosen for exhibit.
Please submit artwork created between your CAC enrollment date and each artwork submission deadline.
Artwork may be in any style, with any subject matter (from representational to abstract).
David will select one of your two new images for each critique.
Email your images to both: jordan@davidlimrite.com and david@davidlimrite.com.
Critiques will be broadcast live (and recorded) via Zoom at 11am PT on the scheduled days.
For Lightning Critiques, 10 artists will receive a 5-minute critique. Sessions will be approximately one hour.
For the In-Depth Critiques, 3 artists will receive a critique lasting approx. 12-14 minutes each. Sessions will be approximately 45 minutes.
We suggest that the artwork submitted not be finished and/or be a work that you are “stuck” on or you don’t know what to do with next.
Once you have submitted your two images, you may not submit updated or newer versions of images of your artwork before the critique.
BONUS CRITIQUES
The Bonus Critiques are optional. There are two of them per artist.
For each of the Bonus Critiques only (not the Lightning or In-Depth Critiques), you may submit up to two works that meet any of the following guidelines:
Previously submitted work(s) (that were not chosen for critique) and that do not have any changes; this is a second (or third) chance at having a specific work critiqued
Previously critiqued works that you have re-worked, changed or updated
Brand new works (which would add to your original total of 6 separate works). If you submit at least two brand new works, you will qualify to have a third piece chosen for the Group Online Exhibit (see below).
If you submit two brand new works for each Bonus Critique, the maximum number of separate pieces you could submit during the CAC will become 10 total.
You could qualify to have a third piece chosen for the Group Online Exhibit. Here’s how:
If you submit a minimum of two additional, brand new works during your Bonus Critiques, you will qualify to submit those two or more additional, brand new works (whether you reworked them after your critique or not) during the Artwork Submission Period (Nov. 3-8) for a third piece to be chosen for exhibit.
ONLINE GROUP EXHIBIT
In order to remain eligible for the Group Online Exhibit, submit two new and separate works for each of these three deadlines: Lightning Critiques (2) and In-Depth Critique (1).
This keeps you eligible to submit your 6 works (whether you re-worked them after your online critique or not and whether they were critiqued or not) for the Group Online Exhibit during the Artwork Submission Period (Nov. 3-8).
From those six works, two will be chosen for exhibit.
If you submit a minimum of two additional, brand new works during your Bonus Critiques, you will qualify to submit those two or more additional, brand new works (whether you reworked them after your critique or not) during the Artwork Submission Period (Nov. 3-8) for a 3rd piece to be chosen for exhibit.
While you will be submitting work during the beginning, middle and end of the CAC per your assigned deadlines, we encourage you to re-work the pieces you submitted (for each deadline) once you have received your critique from David.
The Artwork Submission Period is:
November 3rd thru 8th at 12 pm PT
If you submitted two new and separate works for each of your three deadlines for a total of six (6): Lightning Critiques (2) and In-Depth Critique (1):
Submit new images photographs of all 6 pieces you previously submitted during the CAC in their current, updated state (reworked, repainted, retooled, worked back into, fired, etc.). Email your images to both: jordan@davidlimrite.com and david@davidlimrite.com.
If you submitted two or more additional, brand new works during your Bonus Critiques (maximum four), email these additional two to four images in their current, updated state to both: jordan@davidlimrite.com and david@davidlimrite.com. (whether you reworked them after your critique or not) for a 3rd piece to be chosen for exhibit.
The final deadline for submitting artwork for the exhibit is:
November 8th at 12 pm PT
ARTWORK PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDELINES
Please follow all of the Photography Guidelines below when you submit your work.
Do not submit artwork that has blurry or out of focus photography.
Do not photograph your artwork through glass or plexiglas.
Avoid glare and bright or dark spots (shadows) on your artwork.
Crop the photo to the exact outline of the drawing, painting or artwork so all that is seen is the artwork itself. If your piece is an irregular shape, please photograph it on a solid background.
Think of presenting your work professionally. When in doubt, imagine presenting a final image to a gallery or juried exhibit.
Submit your artwork rotated to the correct orientation (i.e., if the image was a mountain and sky, the sky should be at the top of the frame -- not on the right or left side or on the bottom of the image. This may occur particularly when you take an image of a horizontal piece by turning the camera sideways, and this is particularly important for an abstract painting.)
The artwork as shown in the image should not be "warped" (i.e., the top edge of the piece appearing wider or thinner than the bottom edge, when in fact they are equal in width). This "warping" is often caused by the camera (especially a cell phone camera) not being parallel to the artwork surface.
Submit a high-quality jpeg, png or tiff file of approx. 3-20 MB, with the longest dimension about 2500 px (i.e, an image with dimensions like these: 2500 px by 1800 px).
Artwork file size is where we see the most errors. Please take care to read the above bullet point about file size and make sure your image files meet these guidelines.
Include title, media, and dimensions in your artwork submission email.
For the In-Depth Critiques, if there is anything you want to say about the pieces, your topic and/or theme, please do so.
Images or artwork that do not meet the above guidelines may not be considered for critique. Please take care to follow the guidelines.
